“College learning about academics, it’s more on learning in life.”
This was a statement made by Ms. Babylei M. Bello, the newly elected president of the Central College Student Council (CCSC), as she shared a message about her journey in college during this year’s annual welcome ceremony, Pasa-lubong 2013, held at the SDCA grounds, June 4.

In keeping with the tradition, an institutional flag raising ceremony started the event. Selected freshmen students wearing the school uniform – a change from the past years where students wore red shirts – bore the biggest Philippine flag to be put up waving. The flag was then hoisted on the country’s second tallest flagpole as the SDCA Campus Ministry chorale lead the singing of the national anthem.

Continuing with the tradition, representatives of each program handed the new Dominicans their pins and letters as a sign of welcome. The said letters were written by the graduating students, basically sharing tips about the school and on how to make their college life more meaningful and worthwhile.

The term dubbed as Pasa-lubong is a combination of the two Filipino words ‘pasa’ and ‘salubong’ which means to transfer and welcome. Now on its third year, SDCA continues the Pasa-lubong tradition, welcoming new Dominicans and incorporating them into the campus community.
