David vs. Goliath
The Towering powers of the Iranian cagers broke the hearts and souls of the Filipino nation when they won the gold medal in the 27th FIBA Asia Championship. Using their 7-foot-2 Hamed Hadadi, 6-foot-6 Bahrami, 5-foot-11 Kamrany and 6-foot-7 Sahakian, dominated the game and prove to everyone that no one can beat their heights and experiences. Compared to the Gilas Pilipinas players without the presence of the 6-foot-10 Marcus Douthit that greatly affect the Team while he was not there to man-up the defense of the Iran Squad but the Philippine Squad never give-up because the 6-foot-10 Fajardo and Aguilar were rotating to utilized the scoring of the Giant Hadadi and the 6-foot-2 Chan and David together with the small player-5-foot-9 Alapag helped the Team to stay in the game and don’t give the Iranians a very easy game in the Finals.
Why did we list their figures in height?
This is because a Team with a very big line-up has a great edge to his opponent with a smaller player in the court and the Iran Squad is an example of this kind of team. As for the standing in the FIBA Asia, Iran have no lost in this season and we can say that they dominated the whole Asian Countries that joined this league. Every team said they have a hard time to defend the Iran players especially the tallest one which is Hamed hadadi.
But this top team saw their strongest opponent when they stepped into the Finals and faced our Gilas Pilipinas National Team that gave their hardest time to shoot and to defend the mighty players of our squad. Even though we have a small line-up the fact that we have the fastest and very diligent players that sacrifices their body for us to stay and stand for that finals night. The Iranians have the height and the strongest body but the Gilas Pilipinas have the heart and soul for they do not give-up until the final bell rings.
Everyone said that no one can beat the hearts of every Filipino that pray and support our National Squad and the Millions of supporters all over the globe still salute the Filipino players who played so big to this FIBA Asia.
Even if the players do not take home the gold medal we are still the winner of that night because everybody contributed, supported and proved to other countries that we are one country united for this kind of Sport. Sometimes it is not the title that counts, it is how we prove to everyone that we are one in all the hardships and battles of our countrymen.
