Remarkable win

By Julie Anne Zamuco

Our pride and countrymen’s once again joined the prestigious league of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia 2013.  Every one of us supported and cheered the Gilas Pilipinas which was our Philippine Basketball Team that faced those Asian Countries and won a Silver Medal in the season ending of this event.

“Laban Pilipinas, Puso!” this was the shout-out to support the Gilas Pilipinas for this year and because we were hosting this event, we were very proud to say that we have 100% support to our team. In Social Networking Sites like Facebook and Twitter, millions of supporters around the Philippines and even in the Mall Of Asia Arena were there to support the Gilas Pilipinas Team.  We can even say that the Filipinos were cheering and praying for the best for our National Team and this support had contributed to the battle of the team were very thankful to every Filipinos who supported their journey to the FIBA Asia.

We did everything that we can do and the players gave their hearts and souls to won this battle but again the Championship Crown that everyone has dreaming of was elusive for our Philippine Team. Many Filipinos were trying to say that our players were lack of height and cannot compete to those players of the other Asian Team with a very big line-up compare to us.
But is there a need to emphasize the negative qualities and the weaknesses of our players? I’d rather first commend and be proud of their strenghts and abilities that showed up in this competition. Let’s try to look at the positive side of the team because at the end of the day this team made our country proud in the FIBA Asia and will raise our country’s pride in the World Cup. In addition, giving them the fighting spirit will make them so inspired to face those greatest Basketball Players in the world.

Being second in this league was not that easy, it took thousands of steps and hundreds of strategies to fight and won this silver medal. We were very lucky to have this title and not every country in the FIBA Asia can compete to the World Cup.

This Gilas Pilipinas National Team will not exist and will not succeed without the support and prayers from the Filipinos, so continue to cheer them until their next big match.
